Slide to stack 3×3 conv layers and watch a 32×32 image shrink to 30×30, then 28×28, and on down. Padding, an extra border of pixels, stops this.
Every 3×3 layer removes two pixels. After 1 layers a 32×32 image is down to 30×30. Stack enough and it vanishes.
